CE Credits and State Compliance

Most U.S. states require massage therapists to complete a defined number of continuing education hours in order to renew their license. For example:

Biennial CE Requirements

Many states require 24 hours of continuing education every two years; some include specific content areas such as professional ethics or state regulations.

Course Documentation

HANDS provides certificates of completion for all CE courses, including:

  • Title of course
  • Instructor name and qualifications
  • Number of CE hours awarded
  • Date of completion

These documents support submission to state licensing boards at renewal.

National Resources for CE Compliance

To support licensees in finding approved continuing education opportunities, the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) offers the CE Registry and REACH platform, which provides access to nationally recognized CE courses that meet industry standards.

How to Enroll in CE Courses

  • Review the current CE calendar and course descriptions.
  • Select courses that align with your state renewal requirements.
  • Register online or through the HANDS administrative office.
  • Attend and complete the course to receive your CE certificate.
